
As an alternative you can open an account in your local post office. There are no fees, no charges or transaction costs of any kind on this account and you can withdraw or lodge your cash at any Post Office nationwide, Monday to Saturday.
A Post Office Deposit Account is a regular savings account available for individuals aged 7 or over, jointly with other individuals, on behalf of and in the name of a child under 7 years and also for charity, club, society or even company. To open an account you have to pick up an application form at your post office, complete it and hand it in at the counter at post office with appropriate identification. Identification that could be accepted as proof of name are Passport, Driving Licence, ID card with photo from a known employer/Company, Photo Student ID card issued by a reputable third level college (USIT/ISIC student cards are not acceptable).
Identification that could be accepted as proof of address are Recent original household bill (ESB, phone, etc.) in the customer’s name, an existing An Post Savings/Investment document in the customer’s name, recent original Bank/Building Society Statement in the customer’s name, entry in electoral register, telephone or street directory, driving licence, Pension/benefit book issued by the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
Identification that could be accepted as proof of PPS Number are Official document from the Department of Social and Family Affairs which shows the PPS No, Official document from Revenue Commissioners. If PPS No. cannot be provided, proof of date and place of birth must be, for example: passport, driving licence or birth certificate.
