Green Routes

The new Green Route Bus Corridors are soon to be a fact of life in Cork City. Cork people, and drivers in particular, are about to be exposed to a new experience in Public Transport traffic management.
Cork City and the wider Cork metropolitan area have grown dramatically over recent decades and the number of vehicles, particularly private cars, in our city centre have grown.
The role of Green Routes is to provide the end users - drivers, bus/ train users and cyclists the benefit of choice which guarantees that destinations will be reached on time and in comfort and safety.
The Green Routes have been designed to ensure the fast and efficient movement of people in and out of the city. The priority will be the movement of people, not vehicles.
At the moment the construction of the Green Routes is well underway on the No 6 route from Grange to the City Centre and on the No 8 from Bishopstown to the City Centre. Work on the No 8 from Mayfield is to commence shortly.

A little help for the little ones.

Early Childcare Supplement will be received by all parents of children under 6 years of age who receive Child Benefit in August 2006. The purpose of the early child care supplement is to help parents to cover part of the costs of child care service for their children. It could definitely cover half a day per week in a crèche or two sections per week in play school. Not that much, but needed!

The supplement will be paid at the end of each quarter, with each payment amounting to 250 euro. So if you are already in receipt of Child Benefit there is no need to apply for Early Childcare Supplement.  Those in receipt of Child Benefit should receive the Early Childcare Supplement automatically if the child is under 6 at any time during the quarter in the same way they receive Child Benefit payments.
