Read more ...The Welcome English Language Centre is a Cork institution founded in 2000 by the Sisters of Mercy which provides free courses of English for immigrant communities in the city. Originally intended for all asylum seekers who, at the time, had no right to education or work, its number of students has grown from 15 at its inception to more than 600 in the last academic year. Also, the number of asylum seekers is now only a third of the total, the rest coming from other EU and non-EU countries with the intention of improving their English while looking for work.
