Different ways to make a call home from Cork

One of the important things, when you are living outside of the country of your origin, is to stay in touch with your friends and relatives. On arriving in Cork you can use a mobile phone from your own country, if you have contacted the rooming service with your private company, however, it can be very expensive.

The best way for you is to buy a SIM card from one of the three most popular companies in Cork, they are: Meteor http://www.meteor.ie, O2 http://web.o2.ie and Vodafone http://www.vodafone.ie.

It is a good idea go to the stores of all these companies and compare prices before you choose. If you are a customer of these companies then you can send free text messages to another mobile phone through the internet from their web page. Once you have got your mobile phone you can buy an International Phone Card, like Global Caller, Planet, Century 2000, Voice, Talkalot, Meteor, and make your international phone calls. With those cards you can call landlines or to mobile phones in the country you wish to call from wherever you want, in your house, in the street, etc.

If you don’t have mobile phone, you can use these cards from the telephone boxes on the street, any time you want. You can find these cards in the majority of phone shops or newsagents at prices between €5-25 per card. But, there is another way!

If you wish to contact your friends or family, then there are many different places to do so in Cork City. Easiest and well-known way is to reach one of the many internet Cafés and Call Shops.

Outside of every Internet Café’s door you’ll see different prices and you may choose the most cheap and interesting offer for you. These internets café’s offer more than a phone or internet service, you can also print off documents or your CV, make a photocopy, scan, CD burning and so on. Most of those places are very comfortable and have friendly helpful staff, sometimes coffee is available free of charge while you are waiting inside in a queue
