Grieving from a Distance: Back from the New World
There is an aspect of life known only to us living very far from home: a constant fear that “something bad” will happen back home that we will be unable to help with. Even on my best days there is a small corner of my mind preoccupied with home, family, and friends: my ‘past life’. It’s as if my spirit had fragmented when I left America, and the pieces of it are divided between my past and present homes. Beer is a drink that dates back to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. In its earliest forms, it was made from grains, or bread, which were allowed to ferment and liquefy. Hence, its alter-ego "liquid bread". Over time the process evolved, with most Europeans settling on barley and wheat as their grains of choice and flavorings introduced with the addition of "grut", a mixture of herbs that varied from brewer to brewer. Hops came next, adding flavor and acting as a preservative and eventually replaced grut as the primary flavoring agent.

The early history of Irish dance reveals a constant shifting of population through migration and invasions. Each of these peoples brought their preferred types of dance and music. There are only vague references to the early history of Irish dancing, but there is evidence that among its first practitioners were the Druids, who danced in religious rituals honouring the oak tree and the sun.

Singing in front of others is highly recommended!

Contrary to what you see on American Idol, normally those of us who can’t sing, don’t sing. Even the Americans who can sing, do so only at the designated, appropriate singing times (i.e. at church, on birthdays, in the shower). Any other attempt is considered either hilarious or embarrassing. In the U.S.A., singing in public will make others very wary of you, and may even cause a few people to cross the street to avoid you.
