Row back in Time

Rowing is a great way to keep fit it can be relaxing as well as competitive and if you join a club you will make new friends. Here in Cork we have a Currach pronounced (Kurack) rowing club. A Currach is a traditional Irish fishing boat made of a timber frame and covered with canvas and black tar. These boats are made here in Cork and are taken out by the club, if you would like to experience rowing in a Currach then newcomers are always welcome.

The club meet every Saturday morning at 12.30 in the Shandon Boat Club on the Marina. To get there, walk down Centre Park road towards the river and turn left at the bottom of the road and the boat club is at the end of the avenue.

Life jackets are supplied and a rowing trip may take 1 to 2 hours and costs 5 euros per trip. There are always plenty of events throughout Europe where different rowing clubs compete so there will be a lot of rowing activities you can get involved with if you wish to do so, the members of the club are very friendly and enjoy social activities, you can also get a great tan from being out on the water!
