Now that the weather is getting slightly better and we have the odd warm day it is time to explore one of Cork’s many beaches, take in the views, have a dip in the sea and a walk along the coastline.
Crosshaven is a great place to do all this, located only a few miles from Cork, 40 minutes by bus 222 for 6 euros return fare.
Be sure to bring a packed lunch, as there are no shops on your route. Once you arrive in Crosshaven, take the road that follows past the right hand side of Cronin’s pub until you come to a crossroads. Take the road uphill to the right, and follow along this road, which turns right and then left, past a field to your right. Continue along, passing a left turn in the road, until you reach an open space, overlooked by houses, with a dirt road around them. Follow the dirt track towards the coast as it turns to the right, rises slightly up a hill with car tracks, then becomes a smaller path leading down towards the sea.
Once you get to the end of the path, take in the spectacular coastal views looking out over Graball Bay. Continue following the path through some hedgerows and along the coast until eventually you will arrive at Church Bay where, if you feel the urge, you can go for a quick dip. From here go through the gap at the side of the gate, and follow the road upwards, turning right at the top, then follow this road all the way back to Crosshaven village.
There also will be an exciting outdoor dance performance integrates culture with the magic of nature at this beach on Friday June 24th at 8p.m.
I always find a nice rewarding pint in a local pub afterwards always puts a fine finish to a lovely scenic walk. Enjoy!!
