The Immigrant’s mission is to introduce both the Irish Culture and the Irish way of life to newcomers, migrant workers, foreign students and other immigrants to Cork city and county.
“The Immigrant” was launched in April 2004 as free newsletter for Russian speakers in Cork. Since December 2004 it is developed considerably and is now available in full tabloid format, in English and is absolutely free!
The guiding principles of The Immigrant Newspaper are:
• non-political
• non-sectarian
• non-racist
The newspaper promotes multiculturalism, positive common attitudes and racial integration. The content of the newspaper primarily provides helpful information on such important issues as Education, Accommodation, Employment opportunities and related activities, Culture, News, Health Service, Child Care, Entertainment and other services available to migrant workers, foreign students, newcomers and other immigrants to Cork city and county. The principal aim is to provide comprehensive information to a diverse range of readers and to give them the opportunity to express their concerns, air their views by publishing their opinions and to give them answers to their questions through saturation coverage in the newspaper.
The biggest asset of the newspaper is a body of highly motivated volunteers who with a large amount of dedication go a long way to help their fellow immigrants by providing the most powerful tool – information. One of the strongest points is that this group of volunteers have navigated the system and gained a lot of experience, which they can now share with other people for the simple purpose of making the integration process easier and more enjoyable for all.
